Explore Ireland: The Emerald Jewel

Grab your thermarest, sleeping bag and tent, book a rental car in Dublin, and off you go! In the fall of 2013, Stan Havlick and his wife, Margaret, opted to camp out for 15 of their 18 days on this magical island. There are ample campgrounds with castle and ocean views. This non tourist "coach" approach allows more flexibility for hiking and sightseeing, and allows more resources for Guinness. Some of the photos and highlights discussed will include three nautical destinations to the Blasket, Aran and Skellig Michael Islands, an amazing UNESCO World Heritage Site. A special treat was visiting Anascaul, the home of Tom Crean, the famous Antarctic explorer who was a member of three major polar expeditions in the early 1900s. The Ballycarberry Castle, Kylemore Abby, Cliffs of Mohr, Trinity College with the legendary Book of Kells, and the memorable, not so sobering visit to the must see Guinness Brewery, made for a perfect finale to this Emerald Jewel. Stan, who has lived or traveled on all seven continents, will also devote a portion of his presentation to answering your questions about the wonderful world of travel.
