Viva Cuba: A Cultural Adventure

So near, yet oh so far! Cuba, a mere 90 miles or an hour by air, but an eternity in terms of economic progression. In the winter of 2014, Stan Havlick and 15 members of the Boulder-Cuba Sister City Organization (BOCUSCO) journeyed into the heart of Northern and Eastern Cuba. BOCUSCO is a non-profit, non-political all-volunteer citizen network that strives to create lasting partnerships to promote cultural sharing and understanding between citizens of Boulder and the municipality of Yateras, Guantanamo. Join Stan as he ventures into this enchanting yet rapidly changing environment, a communist nation demonstrating a keen appetite for freedom and new opportunities. Photos and topics discussed will include the nightlife, the decay and restoration of Havana, the Revolution and Castro's continuing grip, the 1492 arrival of Columbus, Hemingway's impact and residency, the famous Stone Zoo, day-to-day living in the mountainous region of Yateras and Baracoa, and the art, dancing and music of this magical land. Stan, who has lived or traveled on all seven continents, will also devote a portion of his presentation to answering your questions about the wonderful world of travel.
